About
Simpit.com (Simply Internet Trash) is my little waste bin of space to throw my internet related garbage. Like most things in this world the majority of people will find it useless but for a few it will be valuable information.
I am Scott Kahler and have in the past been a lifeguard, swim lesson instructor, a variety of positions in food service, technical help desk, ATM network monitoring and a VB programmer. Somehow this all resulted in my current role as an all around linux guy. Recently I’ve changed from writing mostly perl code, being the DBA and a sort of secondary Sysadmin to full time Sys Admin and now Big Data Guy (that’s an official title). My role as an admin ended up being more of a middleware guru as I was involved in everything from the hardware allocation to tweaking app infrastructure to get better performance. This led me to playing with clustered databases and hadoop, where I find most of my time now.
A long time role playing geek I started off playing a variety of RPGs in grade school, which included anything from Rifts to D&D to Marvel Superheros. As BBS systems really started to get popular I ended up in the MajorMud world for a few years and then into Ultima Online, a bit of dabbling in EverQuest and more recently Dark Age of Camelot, World of Warcraft and a much smaller game known as Wurm Online. Currently those hobbies are on a bit of a break and I’m tossing around ideas of writing my own game, as most people with my profession and hobbies list do.
So welcome to my little space online and I hope you find at least one thing of worth within my collection of junk.
